National Service Scheme (NSS)
In pursuance of the National Scheme to inculcate the spirit of service towards the nation and to create awareness about national priorities among the youth, the National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched in 1969, the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi. It was introduced under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, with the vision of involving students in nation-building activities and community service.
The motto of NSS is “Not Me, But You”, which reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service.
In accordance with this vision, NSS units in institutions like ours are functioning with dedication and devotion. Presently, our school runs two active NSS units, where students participate with great enthusiasm in a wide range of activities aimed at social awareness and national development.
Key Activities:
- Awareness campaigns in rural and local areas on environmental conservation, cleanliness, and health issues.
- Surveys and data collection on critical issues such as literacy, sanitation, malnutrition, and water usage.
- Tree plantation drives, plastic-free campaigns, and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities.
- Day and night camps in nearby villages to engage in community service and understand rural life.
- Participation in blood donation camps, road safety campaigns, and health check-up camps.
- Observance of important national and international days like Constitution Day, World Environment Day, International Yoga Day, etc.
- NSS volunteers also get opportunities to appear for NSS ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ certificate examinations, which enhance their portfolio and can be beneficial in higher studies, job recruitments, and even defense services.
Benefits for Students: - Development of leadership qualities, discipline, and team spirit.
- A deeper understanding of social responsibilities and national integration.
- Opportunities for interaction with diverse communities and real-life problem-solving.
- Priority in certain university admissions and competitive exams where NSS certification is considered.
